Natalie Burge’s Bio

"There are people in this world who don't seem to know how to live. Maybe they never knew how to begin with, maybe they forgot, or maybe they learn to fake it. You Natalie, remind people to live. You remind people that flowers are beautiful, sound is worth listening, air is worth breathing, and that it's okay that some things will forever remain a question. There are few people on this earth who are capable of such things. No person, no photo, no song, no day, no time, no place, nothing can take that away from you. You will forever be that person..at least to me..and for that I thank you. You my friend are a daisy in a sea of weeds. Never forget that."

-my friend K.F.

    BigElf: Come to Chicago

Bigelf has been a great friend to us here at LP33. I remember when i was interning at the LP33 offices and working production (and lucky for me makeup tee hee) for the Bigelf bio shoot. Four kick ass dudes with a dedicated vision for their music. So it was a simple choice for me when I got to see them live at the Double Door in Chicago earlier this month. Opening for Parliament isn't a bad gig - I'd say. Bigelf opened their classical rock opera metal on a sea of sweaty beer guzzling elf newbies. I could hear people whispering... they didn't know who Bigelf was. By the middle of the second song I could hear people screaming with rock delight - Bigelf won Chicago's heart almost instantly. After their set I talked to Damon Fox (lead singer) for a few about how the tour had been going and what he thought about the Chicago crowd. He seemed happy all the way around. Needless to say, not all understand Bigelf at first. It's like a rock opera on cocaine. If you get it you get it... and I suggest you make sure you do.

Shiny Toy Guns: I Want One Mommy! I Want One!

I remember seeing Shiny Toy Guns for the first time. It was Park West, Chicago, IL 2007. They were opening for one of my favorite bands, MUTEMATH. Good Show %u2013 OK music. But, with a change in line up and a new album a few years later Shiny Toy Guns sound great and I%u2019m hella looking forward to seeing them rock out at SXSW this month in Austin, Texas. With songs hitting primetime shows like Gossip Girl, Knight Rider, and the CW%u2019s 90210 %u2013 no wonder their getting so much love. Check out their SXSW LP33 profile page now and get pumped because Shiny Toy Guns are here to fucking stay.

Singapore Sling: With a Cherry Please

Singapore Sling formed in 2000 and thank god for that. Starting with a 4 track tape machine in Iceland, a country with freezing on the mind %u2013 creativity was a release and a passing of the time. Singapore Sling isn%u2019t just my favorite drink it%u2019s also my new favorite LP33 band. Their latest effort in %u201C Perversity, Desperation, and Death%u201D sailed the Icelandic airwaves to LP33%u2019s lovely rock channel. With their single %u201CGodman%u201D you can%u2019t help but hear massive influence from bands like Garbage and Spaceman 3000. But, that%u2019s totally OK. Check out tracks %u201CRoad Kill%u201D and %u201CMartial Arts%u201D for a nice jump start with your morning coffee %u2013 or to make your grandmother%u2019s heart skip a beat. Without a doubt keep checkin' back to Singapore Sling's LP33 profile page. I feel a little tipsy with a cherry thinkin' about their future.

    TAAS: Slither Metal To Me

%u201CFour men with a chronic black cloud overhead%u2026 and bored%u201D, you%u2019d think they would have posted more than one song on their lp33 profile page. Frankly, I%u2019m a little disheartened. Not because the production quality lacks slightly but because it seems their LP33 page is more up to date than their actual website itself. Their profile mentions a release of %u201CTail Swallower & Dove%u201D yet I only get one song!? So chose to venture off and try to discover what this band was about. Honestly %u2013 I dig them, vocally believable and musically centered. With a continental United States Tour going on right now till the end of March, you can catch maybe more than one song. With definite metal/punk influences, TAAS seems to have their slithery shells in the door. Check out their profile page and ask them for more music!

    Sarah Bettens: Shines

With her second album Shine released, Sarah Bettens is rockin%u2019 it out here at LP33. A voice with a message her album talks about subjects all across the board but most of all it%u2019s about finding balance and goodness in her music. You can tell she%u2019s been through a thing or two and so has her music. Her debut release SCREAM won her a 2006 European Border Breakers Award for Best New Artist. If you%u2019re into artists like Sheryl Crow then you might dig Sarah Bettens. Check out her single %u201CShine%u201D in her profile page and let me know what you think.

Kingsfall: Pop It Rock It Sorta

Pop/Rock band Kingsfall from Dallas Texas show us what %u201CLove%u201D is. With awesome vocals from Joshua Dufrene and a very organized but not pretentious pop players Kingsfall has a great shot at spicing up your Pop music world. %u201C A band to watch%u201D indeed. Just winning the Famecast Winter Finals Competition giving them the new title of FameCase Phenoms - GO GUYS GO! I%u2019d like to hear them move a little more rock than pop but I see who they are trying to reach and I think they%u2019ll get them. Just bring a little funk next time around and I%u2019ll tell my niece to pick up your album

Beach House: Relax Go Do It

Finally Beach House signs up to LP33. I%u2019m delighted that Beach House has joined the LP33 website. The Baltimore duo Alex Scally and Victoria Lagrand combine seemingly effortless trippy indie tunes. In their words %u201C By not forcing the way their songs come to fruition and by allowing all of their ideas to exist and play freely, an otherworldly space is created.%u201D With a Mother Earth tone to her voice Victoria takes you on a lullaby trip. With a highly delightful live show that tickles your ears (and perhaps inner thighs) if you dig trippy indie rock music with a calming twist Beach House will hit the spot. You can check em out right here at lp33. Just type in Beach House in the search engine

    The Setting Son: Is Still

Hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark, Sebastian T.W. Kristiansen gave birth to The Setting Son. A experimental/rock sound is over shadowed by the obvious desire to trip you out. A bit tribal at times though there is fluidity in songs like Le Sacre Coeur. Their debut album was released back in 2007. I wanta hear some growth from them and soon. If The Setting Son wants in on the UNDRGROUND Goodie Contender Train %u2013 we need to hear new stuff. Whatever the case if I feel like tripping I might put on The Setting Son or I might just put on some else.

    White Arrows: Shot My Heart

White Arrows: Shot My Heart The UNDRGRND section of LP33 is continually growing and housing some amazing musical gems. Bicoastal rock band White Arrows certainly move my Heart & Lungs. Awesome rock pop music %u2013 these guys play new wave with such a sensual ease it kinda scares me. A much brighter sound the bass is strong and the vocals are smoky and sultry. Check out Coming or Going the opening track ff their EP Hearts & Lungs %u2013 you%u2019ll pat yourself on the back after your first listen.

    EverythingBurns Charity Event: Sizzles

Reggie%u2019s Rock Club on the South Side of Chicago reeks in years of rock n%u2019 roll. A killer place to here raw musical talent in the Chicago area, Reggie%u2019s rocked me once again with the EverythingBurns charity event last week. EverythingBurns is an organization that helps provide for those children who are homeless or simply down on their luck in the Chicago area. They happened to have a great line up of music for their charity event to raise money for their amazing cause. The evening started off with LukeDot, a local Chicago folk rock/acoustic duo. Luke on the guitar and vocals, was very sick and seemed to be under the influence of - - flu medicine. Whatever the case Graham did a mighty fine job poppin%u2019 his cherry as a banjo player. . The Little Mermaid%u2019s %u201CUnder The Sea%u201D never sounded so good. If you dig light hearted folk rock music check out my new favorite LukeDot. Following a chill set by LukeDot, electrosexual rock band Vitallight took over Reggie%u2019s rock stage with pleasure. Prepared with a 25 minute set, Vitallight fans wanted more. With the first light show of the evening, Vitallight played hard for Shirock fans -I think gaining a few in the process. I would have liked to hear lead singer, Adam Novak%u2019s vocals better %u2013 the mix was slightly off. The energy of the band totally makes up for the mix issues. Quickly following Vitallight was Holding Mercury, one of Music Connection magazines Hot 100 Unsigned Bands & Artists of 2008. A band with seasoned written all over them, I was happily surprised with their musicianship. With mostly high-tempo and catchy originals, Holding Mercury owned the stage. Reggie%u2019s got rocked again with Vitallight and Holding Mercury. Check out Vitallight next at The Bottom Lounge, February 22, 2009. And see Holding Mercury February 21, 2009 in Pe Pere Wisconsin at Baba Louie%u2019s w/ The Melismatics.

    Radio Sun: Shines

Radio Sun: Shines Experimental/Psychedelic band Radio Sun makes me high without inhaling a damn thing. With an EP and a Full Length album released I'm looking forward to what their 5th cd will have in store for us. A band with massive growth potential- I'm looking out for this North Carolina band. The members who wish to remain nameless because they think it's more mysterious - it's only fun for the band, not for us. Check out the song Priestess of the Night and I am Sun You Are Sea for a nice place to start. Heavy vibes from the likes of Velvet Underground and The Pretty Things - perhaps one day they'll influence like these bands have and did. Radio Sun I have one request- don't stop getting better.

The Spores: Are Gone? Before They Came?

The Spores: Are Gone? Before They Came? With good intentions The Spores %u201CDon%u2019t Kill Yourself%u201D single makes me honestly want to at least go into a long coma. With extremely repetitive guitars, and sensation- less vocals the spores I guess killed their band as well. Apparently they closed shop in 2008. But, they didn%u2019t turn off the lights totally yet with songs like %u201CBig Brother%u201D and %u201CBlood Red Rose 2%u201D you can see where they were wanting to travel with their sounds. And frankly they could have gotten there. With Greg Biribauer on programming and Kenny Pierce on loops they had mad potential. A very Garbage meets Portishead sounding band %u2013 The Spores could rock it a little more %u2026 if only they got back together.

The Stone Foxes: Turn Me On

The Stone Foxes: Turn Me On Clearly influenced by 1960%u2019s and 1970%u2019s rock n%u2019 roll, The Stone Foxes pull together a refreshing sound. A quartet hailing from San Francisco %u2013 they bring the life of oldies goodies back to the volume button on your speakers. With a heavy West coast tour currently keeping them busy I don%u2019t want them to just stop there. HEAD TO THE MIDWEST! With their self titled latest release I believe The Stone Foxes are coming to life in 2009. I mean if Dan Aykroyd loves em then shoot check em out %u2013 you know Elwood Blues never did you no wrong. For a new psychadelic treat check out %u201CSweep a Road%u201D on their media player here at LP33. I dig these guys. Win my heart and come play live here in Chicago soon.

    Via Radio: Via Feel Good

Oh so feel good good good. Via Radio gives the feel good pill pleasantly- and I%u2019m surprised. Musically they are pretty light and airy with bridges that give you a taste of how they could rock you %u2013 if they were a lot edgier. I see enormous potential for this band. I keep my shoulders moving through each song (which is a rarity) and their lyrics at least have some substance and are comprehendible. The duality of female/male vocals is nice but I%u2019d like to hear one of them be stronger. It might make Via Radio stand out in a sea of bands so amazingly similar. %u201CWe Can Be Good%u201D and %u201CHarder On Me%u201D are two of the better songs they have on their profile page. But, %u201CDeveloping Active People%u201D is worth a good listen. I think this band would actually do really well generating a fan base in the MidWest. I wanta see some live footage of the gang. I say keep it up and keep getting%u2019 better.

Crystal Stilts : Start to Walk

A band with a passion for the days of yester %u2013year, Crystal Stilts could have easily fallen out of a black hole that was the 1960%u2019s. A gang of sweet heathens, I dig them. Though the audio quality is slightly sub par on their profile page. Their title track is a little monotonous but Converging In The Quiet makes up for it. Brooklyn, New York born Crystal Stilts will be taking land over seas by storm in February and March. With shows crossing Europe they%u2019ve got their shit together. Check out their %u201Cband bio%u201D video they posted on their profile page. I%u2019d actually like to hear words out of their mouth but they don%u2019t give us that option yet. Nevertheless, interesting band. I%u2019m not mind blown - but their gravy.

    Down on The Ranch

The Stevenson Ranch Davisons A trying psychedelic band %u2013 they grow on me after each listen. Don't get me wrong I like to feel out of body but I gotta feel out of body with substance. I think The Stevenson Ranch Davidsons aren't there yet but could be. Nothing original but in this case I don't really care. I can shake a hand to those who just wanta feel %u2013 anything. Lyrically I'm not moved. I would love to hear them be more creative lyrically. I without a doubt here a little Jeff Buckley influence in the guitar and vocals. Not Buckley but still pleasant. I'm in a tug of war with this band. I want to see them try a little harder. Check em out for yourself and let me know what you think

Portugal The Man : Are The Men

I remember the first time I saw Portugal The Man. It was a coat wearing Wednesday night in the windy city. After our share of Coors Light and the 22 Clark Bus my friends and I were ready for some magic. A crowded House of Blues smelt of weed, booze, and excitement. I was ready to listen, what I got was an experience. To my complete ignorance I didn't suspect that the next time I inhaled a breath of fresh air I would be a saved girl. With five albums under their belts Alaskan based Portugal The Man believes in something. God a band that has something to write? Something to say? Something to do? How freakin exciting! Evolving musicians and poets John, Zachary, Jason, and Ryan wanta make you feel something other than your genitals scream. Progressive musical movement in Censored Colors, their latest album release; Portugal takes you on a trip. Their first single off the album "Lay Me Back Down" possesses a beautiful vocal arrangement and heavenly catchy "Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba" chorus you can't help but smile. I had the great pleasure and honor of meeting the lads and I don't believe there are enough words in the english language to express their gratitude and graciousness. Real hearts beat in these guys. Without a doubt Portugal The Man is one of my favorite bands. If you wanta hear some great lyrics check out "Created." If you wanta get your face rocked off check out "AKA M80 The Wolf" off their 2006 release Waiter: You Vulture's! A true full body experience via headphones or live - - do yourself a favor and check out Portugal The Man. oh and thanks John for introducing.

Danger Is My Middle Name: Emo me up Scottie

A Pop/Emo band hailing from Chicago, Il plays a little music. So I've heard about Danger Is My Middle Name and thought well hell I'll give em a listen. William plays a nice guitar and the music is well produced but all in all I need to be 12 to feel this music. Gabe's vocals aren't chirpy (which I'm very thankful for), but have a very matter of fact pronunciation and predictable harmonies. They seem to have a nice following of fans so I'm going to give them the benefit of doubt and say that I'm the one who missed the Danger train. With a plethora of Central Illinois dates the Emo kids will certainly be crying for tickets. I will give credit where credit is due though. Danger Is My Middle Name has built a perfectly crafted marketable image and sound for the MTV audience. I can see 15 minutes of fame for these guys. Good pop production goes far and so do cute faces. I'd say if you like rock n roll you won't dig Danger Is My Middle Name. But, if you wanta revisit your pop/punk high school years - without a doubt this band will rock your world.

    VitalLight Rocks Reggies

So I%u2019ve finally made it back home. Where%u2019s home you ask- Chicago, Il. After a summer of sun in the City of Angels I realized it%u2019s not angels of the unknown that keep my heart beating. They only keep me seeking; but, windy angels- angels who don%u2019t mind switching lanes without notice, those are the angels I want to ride with and they live in Chicago. My home. So now that I%u2019ve made it back I had to get my Midwest music fix. So, lucky me my favorite local band VitalLight had a show at Reggies Rock Club on the south side of the city. Local favorites The New Diet and All The Day Holiday opened for the rock quartet. Not a shabby bunch, but paled in comparison to the new material VitalLight brought with their new guitarist Mike Tracy in the lineup. Raging energy, intricate guitars, and a Brandon Boyd style vocalist with muscles you can%u2019t help but pull your back out when the drum solo begins. The guys have developed significantly since their first release TURN ON LP earlier this year. A band containing four extremely gifted musicians I can%u2019t wait to see what the future holds for them. You can check their music out here in the UNDRGRND section and I%u2019ll be posting a video interview with them soon!

Geoff from Goldenhorse stops by LP33

So it's Friday. Not so much a lazy Friday around here though. Launch on Tuesday = Hung over on Wednesday. But this Friday something a little exciting is going on in the ALD department. Geoff from Goldenhorse has been just.. chillin'. I have a new appreciation for the New Zealand based pop band. Geoff is an amazing spirit with a wealth of knowledge of music and music culture. Not only a music purist but a pure heart. The ALD team and Geoff went out for lunch at some sushi restaurant across from the Santa Monica DMV. Jonathan didn't get his salad in time and the rest of us ate way too many spicy tuna and salmon rolls. After we filled our bellys and Jonathan bringing back his very late and fake crab salad - Geoff and I went through my music library which started on a musical tangent of undiscovered artists and bands that we want to learn more about. Geoff's good nature and desire to learn everything he can about a 23 year old Chicago girls music taste just made my heart smile. Thank goodness we've still got mainstream artists that care and want to know more about the growing changes, needs, and outlooks of music fans. So check out Geoff and the rest of Goldenhorse- it's build with good people.
