Michael Rosenblatt’s Bio

From my WIKI

"Michael Rosenblatt is one of the music industry’s most notable A&R executives, having discovered and signed Madonna, among other top selling artists. He was born on May 26, 1957 in New York City. As the son of music industry luminary Eddie Rosenblatt, Michael was destined for a career in music. The family moved from New York to Cleveland, and then to Los Angeles where Eddie co-founded Geffen Records with David Geffen.

In the summer of 1977, Michael moved back to New York to start his own career in music. His first job was at Sire Records, working for legendary record executive Seymour Stein. In New York, Michael became a fixture at CBGBs, Max’s Kansas City, Danceteria, The Mudd Club and other clubs where he was among the first to hear new bands in the burgeoning punk/new wave scene.

While at Sire Records, Michael’s talent for recognizing talent made him one of the top A&R executives in the business. Here is where he discovered and signed Madonna, The B-52's, Soft Cell, M, Depeche Mode, and The The, among many others.

In 1983, he left Sire Records and worked for MCA, Geffen and WEA UK, discovering and signing big selling bands like Bronski Beat, The Commanards, Christopher Williams, Nitzer Ebb, Betty Boo, Praise, The Murmurs, Semisonic, New Radicals and many others."

I also worked with The Pretenders, XTC, Aztec Camera, Jennifer Holiday, and was responsible for soundtracks such as Les Miserable, Miss Saigon, Half Baked and the 1999 Kevin Costner film, For the Love of the Game.

By 1993, I was back at MCA. Within a few years I moved to LA to work in their west coast office, where I continued to discover, sign and nurture new talent.

After leaving MCA, I formed a management company. During that time I discovered and managed bands like Augustana and Hockey.

"Currently Senior Vice President and Head of A&R at LP33.tv, a company dedicated to the discovery of new music, Michael uses his considerable experience to curate the site’s music content and work with young bands."

Studio Fast Track: My Thoughts So Far

I just spent the day going through submissions for the Studio FastTrack competition and I was very pleased to see demos come in from far and wide. Actually, we have submissions from as far as Australia and Ireland, as well as from all corners of the US. A couple of the submission really caught my ear. The first was Remma from Cork, in the south of Ireland. I didn’t know they had bands in Cork. It’s an incredibly beautiful part of the world. I went to a music festival there ages ago and while the festival was great, it’s not what one would call a hotbed of local talent. The guys in Remma are really good in a Radiohead/ U2 kind of way. The song Forcibly Impressed sure impressed me. I like the lead singer’s soaring vocals and the band plays really well. I also like that it starts off with strings that have a uniquely Irish feel to them. And the song builds really well to a nice crescendo. The other band I want to mention is I Love Monsters from NYC. The song Practice With Your Heart is a great little alt/pop song. I really like this guy’s vocal and the hook is very strong. It’s a very simple song, and you know what, sometimes simple just can’t be improved upon. Really excellent song. That’s it for now. I’m looking forward to hearing some more great bands. So keep those cards and letters coming. You can enter here: http://www.lp33.tv/studiofasttrack

    The Ringo Starr Interview

After all these years in the music business, I’ve met most of the greats. To me, no one can top a Beatle. A few weeks ago, I got a call from an old friend. Ringo Starr is about to release a new album, called Y NOT, and my friend thought that LP33 would be a good fit for an interview to help support the release. After all, that’s what we do here. So we assembled our crew and set a date. Here's the teaser video... http://blog.lp33.tv/exclusive/the-ringo-starr-teaser Full interview is coming soon! I worked with Victoria, our head of press, and we came up with a brilliant (if I do say so myself) set of questions. The day of the interview arrives and Andy our CEO, who was going to do the interview, wasn’t feeling great. Unbelievably, it fell to me, your humble narrator, to do the interview! OMG HE’S A FUCKING BEATLE!!!!!! My first thought was I really needed to go to the bathroom. So I pulled myself together and then I got really excited. Our crew had set up earlier in the day and I was a bundle of nerves as Andy, Victoria, Colette and I arrived to shoot the interview. Ringo showed up just as expected and after introductions and a few minutes of small talk (I have no idea what we were talking about), we started the interview. I had my list of questions and Ringo had an endless supply of answers. At this point, time had stopped for me. How long was the interview? Three minutes, two hours? I have no idea. I do know that I got to ask a Beatle who his favorite Beatle was. And I know that I will always remember that afternoon.
