Vanaprasta’s Bio
Vanaprasta formed in December of 2008, and the Los Angeles/Silver Lake rock band has already generated a swift buzz through their intense, energetic live shows at venues like Spaceland, Cinespace, The Knitting Factory, The Roxy, and beyond the Southland by touring the Pacific Northwest. The band has earned an LA Times Top Pick in recent months, and MiningTheLandfill.com has designated their forthcoming LP Healthy Geometry as one of the top 11 albums to look out for in 2010.
Vanaprasta headlined the first night of the Sunset Strip Music Festival at The Viper Room and have done live in studio performances at radio stations such as KXLU and isgoodradio.com in Los Angeles.
Forming the Shapes EP is set to be released in February of 2010. They are also in the process of finishing their debut LP Healthy Geometry, which was written by each member of the band in synchronistic fashion.
Vanaprasta's live shows and recorded tracks feature aggressive guitar interaction, abrupt shifts in time signature, tandem drumming, and soaring vocals. Front man Steven Wilkin, Collin Desha, Taylor Brown, Cameron Dmytryk, and Ben Smiley showcase a powerful, emotive overall sound which embodies Vanaprasta.
The band is influenced by various sounds, such as the bluesy monstrous riffs of Dark Side of the Moon to the slurred guitar of The Moon & Antarctica. Their sound also draws influence from the driving rhythms of Silent Alarm, the funk of bloodsugarsexmagik, and the raw three part guitarmonies from The Bends.
