MxPx’s Bio

MxPx know a thing or a two about longevity and consistency. They’ve been a band for nearly two decades and have released seven full-length albums, a covers collection, four EPs, three compilations and one live album. What’s even more impressive than their prolific nature - or that they were given the key to their home city of Bremerton in 2006 - is the fact that they’ve maintained the same three members for almost the entire course of their pop punk existence. In 2009, the Washington state trio – bassist/lead vocalist Mike Herrera, guitarist Tom Wisniewski and drummer Yuri Ruley – have elected to create another covers album, the 1980s-centric On The Cover II, which comes nearly fifteen years after On The Cover. On The Cover II will be released via Tooth & Nail Records.

As to why the band chose to do another collection of MxPx renditions of favorite songs, Herrera sums it up efficiently, saying, "The fans kept chanting, 'One more covers album!'" Wisniewski concurs, admitting “Our fans have been asking us to do another cover record for almost a decade now. We've always put it on the backburner but we finally just decided that it'd be a fun thing to do.” And he’s right. On The Cover II, which was mostly recorded in Herrera's new Monkey Trench studios, buoys with the energy, fevered pacing and melodic sensibilities that MxPx have built their rock solid reputation upon since forming in 1992. While it was a fun record for the band to make, it’s even more fun for the fans. Herrera says, "We put them through this spaghetti type machine that has the punk head and MxPx written on it. When it comes out the other end, it's all ready to go!"

The album features renditions of the Dead Milkmen’s “Punk Rock Girl,” U2’s “I Will Follow,” Descendents’ “Suburban Home, The Ramones’ “My Brain is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes to Bitburg),” at which Ruley calls a “great song” that MxPx did a better version of “no disrespect to The Ramones!” The Go-Gos’ “Vacation,” The Proclaimers’ “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” and The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go” may be obvious choices for a punk rock band such as MxPx to cover, but the band is also paying homage to their influences. The album also features quirkier choices, such as Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven Is a Place on Earth,” where Herrera harmonizes with Agent M (Tsunami Bomb/The Action Design) and Kim Wilde’s “Kids in America,” which features a bassline that was recorded in Australia. Additionally, their remaking of Poison’s “Fallen Angel” features a guest vocal from Chiodos’ Craig Owens, as well as the Descendents Stephen Egerton on the guitar solo. Other left of center covers include The Blue Hearts’ “Linda, Linda” and Queen’s “Somebody to Love,” featuring additional vocals, piano and keyboards from Bryce Avary of The Rock Summer and a guitar solo from Ethan Luck of Relient K -- all of which elevate the album’s status from fun to ambitious. If one thing is for sure, MxPx and On The Cover II bounce, making for a real treat on the ears.

Wisniewski offers some insight as to why the band chose the songs they did. “We covered ‘Punk Rock Girl’ because I have personally loved and wanted to cover this song for as long as I can remember,” he admits. “To me, ‘Punk Rock Girl’ is one of the best love songs ever written!” The band certainly does justice to the song and the spirit of what the Dead Milkmen were doing in their heyday. MxPx’s version is strong enough to revive the song in pop culture for a new generation, especially with the addition of Matt Hensley (Flogging Molly) on accordion. Wisniewski expands upon the choice to give U2’s “I Will Follow” an MxPx makeover, saying, “We all love U2. The hard part about covering a U2 song is that they're already pretty much perfect. That's why we added the little breakdown part in the bridge of this one. We wanted to put our own little stamp on a classic.” Again, the band is able to straddle the tightrope between being loyal to the original and adding MxPx flourishes to these songs to great success. Wisniewski continues, “We always try to add or augment parts of the song in an attempt to make them our own. A few good examples of this are the breakdown in ‘I Will Follow’ and the complete stripping down of the verses of ‘Bonzo Goes to Bitburg.’”

As for The Clash, Ruley called the choice a “‘no-brainer.’ Tom our guitar player sings this one, which is fitting because he’s our Mick Jones.” Wisniewski adds, “We have played this for years with me singing lead vocals and it was one of the first songs that we knew we had to put on our new cover record!”

Regarding the “not so standard” redos, Wisniewski admits that they wanted to throw in a few surprises and unexpected tunes, to help open up their fanbase to bands they may not have heard of prior. “I think the biggest surprise song on this record would be ‘Linda Linda’ by The Blue Hearts,” he admits. “They are one of the biggest Japanese punk bands ever and we wanted to do a little something special for our Japanese fans on the new cover record.” Herrera is in agreement. "I think the Queen song and the song in Japanese will be a 'surprise,' as will 'Heaven Is a Place on Earth' with Agent M on lead vocals!"

While making the music was a blast, Wisniewski claims the photo shoot was the most fun. MxPx donned 80s costumes, dressing up like Poison and trying to get The Go-Go’s photo “just right.” The band turned a normally banal process into something exciting. Herrera also claims that "the process and challenge of recording and producing someone else's songs was the best part for me."

Leave it to MxPx to turn everything they do into a lively event. The band wants the fans to enjoy this new batch of covers, but as Wisniewski says, “We will be back in the studio really soon to bang out a new record of MxPx songs!” They will also be self-releasing a live DVD called Triple Threat, which will feature three different live shows! Amen to that. Now, go pop in On the Covers II to wet your appetite for now.

MxPx Returns to Vegas For Final Performance Before Drummer Yuri Ruley's Retirement

MXPX RETURNS TO LAS VEGAS FOR THEIR FINAL PERFORMANCE BEFORE DRUMMER YURI RULEY’S RETIREMENT Vegas Set List To Include Fan Favorites “Chick Magnet” And “Move To Bremerton” From Their Acclaimed Album, Life In General Los Angeles, CA, July 8, 2010 – Two days after their 18-year anniversary, Bremerton, WA trio MxPx announces the retirement of their drummer Yuri Ruley, as the band plans to scale back on touring but will continue to play select shows and release new material. In addition to this announcement, the band will be performing in Las Vegas on July 18th as a farewell to Ruley and celebration of their most celebrated release to date by performing the entirety of third LP, Life In General. After 18 years and nearly 2.5 million records, having helped pave the way for pop-punk music, Ruley will be departing the band in order to focus more on his family life. “With MxPx being a touring band and constantly on the road 9 months out of the year, I knew at some point it would have to come to an end, but the reality of it is a lot harder than I thought it would be. MxPx has been my second family for nearly two decades, but I need to step away to focus on raising my family.” With Ruley’s departure, MxPx will be scaling back a bit to focus on the completion of their new live DVD/photo book and new EP. Vocalist and bassist Mike Herrera will lean his focus to Tumbledown’s sophomore release and guitarist Tom Wisniewski will continue with MxPx in conjunction with his new full-time job. “The current economy crisis has affected everyone in some way. For us as a mid-tier band that relies on consistent touring as a steady source of income, we’ve been affected drastically. Touring costs have sky-rocketed and companies have limited their marketing dollars, resulting in most bands being barely able to cover current road costs,” says Wisniewski. “I had no choice but to limit my availability on the road to get a full time job to support my family, but will continue to perform select MxPx dates and continue making music.” Not to be confused as the band’s final show, the bittersweet performance and farewell to Ruley will be the band’s first appearance into Sin City since September 2008 and will celebrate the near 14-year anniversary of their most notable album release to date, Life In General, with a live full album performance at the Hard Rock Hotel for their faithful fans. “This will be a night to celebrate both the band and our fans who have supported us and will continue to support us now and in the future,” says Herrera. The music of MxPx has been known for its ability to unite formerly distinguished fan bases such as the skate/surf community and the punk underground, MxPx used this wide variety of fans as a catalyst for the release of Life In General in 1996, which is notably the bands first mainstream success to date with tracks “Chick Magnet” and “Move To Bremerton,” having launched them to the top of the alternative charts in 1996. MxPx will continue to perform in festivals and one-off dates with Chris Wilson (The Summer Obsession) sitting in on drums. MxPx All-Stars will embark on a new International tour to Australia in early 2011, which will feature the same line-up from their first tour to Japan and Malaysia – Mike Herrera, Kris Roe of The Ataris and Chris Wilson. Also, stay tuned as long awaited full-length album of MxPx’s side-project, Arthur, featuring all three members and their former tech assistant Neil Hundt will be released later this year. MxPx To Release "Punk Rawk Christmas" Holiday Album

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MXPX TO RELEASE 14 SONG HOLIDAY ALBUM “PUNK RAWK CHRISTMAS” DIGITALLY ON DECEMBER 1 LIMITED EDITION PHYSICAL VERSION AVAILABLE, 7” VINYL AND BUNDLE PACKAGES AVAILABLE AT: WWW.MXPX.COM First Single, “Punk Rawk Christmas” Will Premiere On Band’s MySpace Page on Friday, November 27 Los Angeles, CA, November 24, 2009 - MxPx, the notorious punk rockers out of the great Northwest are digitally releasing a 14-track Christmas album titled Punk Rawk Christmas through their label, Rock City Recording Company on December 1. This special holiday offering has been over 10 years in the making; one punk-carol classic released each year (sometimes two) to their PxPx Fan Club for over a decade has now been packaged along with one new original track, “Punk Rawk Christmas” and the soon-to-be-classic punk cover of “Auld Lang Syne.” This year marks the band’s 17-year anniversary and in celebration they have already released an album of covers, On The Cover II in addition to an EP, Left Coast Punk, their first original release in more than two years. Lead singer/bassist Mike Herrera explains the bands decision on now adding in a full-length Christmas album, “This year there was just enough songs to make for a nice, robust holiday album. Any more would be too much, any less would be…well, you get the idea.” Longtime fan favorites such as “Christmas Day,” “You’re The One I Miss” and “It’s Christmas and I’m Sick” are wrapped up alongside the previously unreleased “Punk Rawk Christmas”. About the title track, Herrera says, “I was sitting at the studio writing and thinking of how bad the economy was. Then I came up with the idea of Christmas itself being broke and ‘on a budget’ hence, Punk Rawk Christmas was born.” Adding to the Christmas list of hits, MxPx has added their version of, “Auld Lang Syne”, because, “we wanted to do at least one cover, but didn't want it to be too weird and cheesy. ALS seemed perfect. It was fun and we did it in one afternoon; what I call the punk rock 101-style of recording.” As a bonus, MxPx will be releasing a RED version of the album available only through Amazon on Demand, which features a physical copy of all 14 tracks, but alternative artwork from the version sold on the bands website. The RED version will be available on December 1. Also available on the same day the band will be releasing a collector’s dream, a limited edition marble-colored 7” vinyl featuring the bands first Christmas track ever written, “Christmas Day” and their most recent track, “Punk Rawk Christmas” in their original form on side A, and acoustic versions on side B. The 7” vinyl is a limited run of 500 and is only available through the bands website: www.mxpx.com. Also only available through the website is the ‘Limited Edition’ version, known as the GREEN version. This edition includes all 14 tracks, plus two bonus tracks, a previously unreleased original song called “Coal” and an unreleased original demo track, “Questions” in addition to an expanded photo pull-out cover and will be available one week after the digital release on December 8. MXPX TO RELEASE NEW EP "LEFT COAST PUNK"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MXPX TO RELEASE NEW EP "LEFT COAST PUNK" ON NOVEMBER 17 THROUGH OWN LABEL, ROCK CITY RECORDING COMPANY FULL 6-SONG EP AND LIMITED EDITION CD VERSION AVAILABLE First Single, "End" Will Premiere On Band's MySpace Page Los Angeles, CA, November 11, 2009 - After a wildly successful 17th anniversary summer, complete with a fan "favorites" live broadcast performance, the punk-pop gurus of Bremerton, WA are back at it again. Now, MxPx are set to release Left Coast Punk, their latest EP (the bands first in five years), through their very own label, Rock City Recording Company. MxPx has always been the harder-and-faster variety of punk playing bands, the band coined the phrase "Left Coast Punk" as a simple way to describe their sound, and those similar, residing from the Left Coast. It is that particular sound that is evident within the new tracks and MxPx vocalist and bassist, Mike Herrera felt the name just seemed to fit, "It just made sense to use the term, it's been around awhile, something I believe we coined, but it perfectly describes the clash of pop sensibility with the fast and hard playing that we are known for." That clash of sounds is what hardcore MxPx fans will get; however the band did add in a melodic soft touch on a couple of tracks including the first single, "End," a tribute to some great punk and rock shows of the past. Using a style of play not performed by the band very often, melodic and fast, mid tempo and powerful, but fans will notice the signature MxPx sound. Other tracks, like "Broken," carry a more serious, personal tone, a rhythm that drives the lyrics - peering deep into feelings of being, well, broken inside. And then there's "Desperate to Understand" featuring classic MxPx style lyrics about lifting each other up and by sound alone, "One Step Further" kick starts the EP with its fast tempo, while the lyrics delve into becoming a better person. Left Coast Punk is the bands fifth EP, but the first to be released through the bands own label, Rock City Recording Company. The band admits there is more work at hand, but Herrera puts it all into perspective, "It was about time we took this leap into the darkness, after all, we're musicians, there's no retirement in punk rock." With that new leap of faith, the band will be releasing the standard 6-song EP through major online digital retailers. As a bonus the band will be releasing a limited edition physical version of the EP as a 10-track CD, which includes an additional 3 instrumental tracks (a first for the band) and "On a String," a previously unreleased demo track. With only 500 in the limited edition run, each copy will come with an autographed poster, and will only be available on the band's website: www.mxpx.com. First single, "End" will debut on Friday, November 13 on the band's MySpace page: www.myspace.com/mxpx at 9 am PST. MxPx is Mike Herrera (bass/vocals), Tom Wisniewski (guitars) and Yuri Ruley (drums). In the span of 17 years, the band has sold over 2.5 million records world-wide and is ready to continue that success as they release this EP as well as their special Christmas album, set to be released this holiday season. MXPX-LEFT COAST PUNK EP (Digital) 1. One step further 2. Desperate to understand 3. Broken 4. Shanghaied in shanghai 5. Hopeless case 6. MxPx All Stars Head to Japan and Malaysia

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MXPX MIX THINGS UP FOR AN INTERNATIONAL RUN IN JAPAN AND MALAYSIA Trio Announce All-Star Line-Up Featuring Mike Herrera, Kris Roe of The Ataris and Chris Wilson of The Summer Obsession Los Angeles, CA, October 7, 2009 – Bremerton, WA’s punk trio MxPx will be embarking on an International tour to Japan and Malaysia, but with a slight twist. An MxPx All-Star line-up has been announced featuring MxPx lead vocalist and bassist Mike Herrera along with Kris Roe of The Ataris on guitar and Chris Wilson of The Summer Obsession on drums. The MxPx All-Stars will perform four dates in Japan with friends, Zebrahead starting on December 4 in Tokyo and ending in Osaka on December 8. The All-Stars will then head off to KualaLumpur, Malaysia for a solo date on December 11. “We decided to change things up a little for some International dates, due to Yuri having another baby recently and Tom wanting to be home through the holidays,” said MxPx lead vocalist and bassist Mike Herrera. “Chris [Wilson] has been our fourth member for awhile covering on select dates, so he was an easy selection. I asked Kris [Roe] to join in because he’s another close friend of ours that plays his own music and I knew he would be a fun addition to the line-up.” For the past decade, MxPx have had a relentless touring schedule. Having traveled to Australia, Israel, Russia, China, Europe, South American, Indonesia, Japan, and now Malaysia, the band finally had this summer off to finish recording and mastering their new EP, Left Coast Punk, which will be released later this year. They will also finish recording additional tunes for their holiday album, which is set to be released in the next few months as well. Ataris front man Kris Roe met MxPx in 1996, when both bands began their first tours together. “We all bonded in the fact that we were all under 21, grew up in small towns and had left school and dropped everything we knew to get in a van to follow our dreams of what we loved and the only thing we likely knew... to play music.” Roe is ready to let go of his normal front man role to fill in for MxPx guitarist Tom Wisniewski. “Being able to just play guitar for an entire set without having to worry about being the singer will be a great relief. It gets a little tiring sometimes.” Chris Wilson is very familiar with MxPx’s set list as he has filled in for MxPx drummer Yuri Ruley in the past on occasional dates as well as being a fan of the band while growing up. “MxPx have definitely been one of my biggest music and lifestyle influences, and when I tour with them it always proves to be a great time! I mean hell...I get to play for one of my favorite bands again! Who wouldn't want to do that?” The song selection will consist of tracks from MxPx’s massive catalog, and of course, include tracks from their current covers album, On The Cover II; And with Roe and Wilson in the mix, they will also be performing a couple of Ataris tracks, as well as some special surprises. The Ataris, a pop punk band originally out of Anderson, Indiana have released five studio albums and are currently finishing their forthcoming album The Graveyard of the Atlantic. They will be touring the western U.S. throughout September and early October before heading to Jakarta, Indonesia for one show, and then continue on to New Zealand and Australia. The Summer Obsession, a punk band now based in Los Angeles, is also working on a new album. Having last released their major label debut This Is Where You Belong through Virgin Records, the band took some time off, but are now back in the studio working on a new material. Current Tour Itinerary for MxPx All-Stars: w/Zebrahead: December 4 Studio Coast Tokyo, Japan December 6 Bay Hall Yokohama, Japan December 7 Diamond Hall Nagoya, Japan December 8 Hatch Osaka, Japan Solo date: December 11 Number One Café KualaLumpur, Malaysia www.mxpx.com www.myspace.com/mxpx www.facebook.com/mxpxpx www.twitter.com/mxpx # # # For more information on MxPx All-Stars, contact: Kelly MacGaunn kelleemack pr p. 818.506.7105 e. kelly@kelleemackpr.com

MIKE HERRERA'S TUMBLEDOWN ANNOUNCES VIDEO PREMIERE OF "BUTCHER OF SAN ANTONE" ON SHOCKHOUND.COM Los Angeles, CA, August 26, 2009 -- MIKE HERRERA'S TUMBLEDOWN have partnered with HOT TOPIC'S SHOCKHOUND internet site to premiere the new video for their single, "Butcher of San Antone". The video will debut today starting at 9am PST/ 12pm EST at: http://www.shockhound.com/videos/687-mike-herrera-s-tumbledown-butcher-of-san-antone. The track is the second single from he bands self-titled debut album, released through End Sounds earlier this year. Mike Herrera is best known as the front-man of MxPx, but has been writing country music since 1998, and claims some of the industry greats as his influences; such songwriting legends as Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and Bill Monroe. MIKE HERRERA'S TUMBLEDOWN captures the punk rock energy of MxPx, while also displaying the soulful experiences of Herrera's travels along the lonely, open road, coining their own unique pop-punk-a-billy sound. Sticking to their DIY roots, the band teamed up with Dallas-based video director, Joe the Visualist (Joe Harris) to create their interpretation of a classic comic book from the 60's (Eerie Comics). Herrera illustrates the song as "the story of a vigilante priest out for revenge. It's a comic book, pulp-style story and is definitely set apart from our other songs. It's seedy and sleezy, just the way I like it. I think anyone can get into a story of murder and revenge. Don't you?" Dark and gritty, a step away from your more traditional summer anthems, "Butcher of San Antone" does have its lighter moments with guest vocals from Nicole Pike of the Wreckin' Machine. MIKE HERRERA'S TUMBLEDOWN, formed in Bremerton, WA, consists of Herrera as songwriter/lead vocals/guitar, lead guitarist Jack Parker, standup bassist Marshall Trotland, and drummer Harley Trotland. SHOCKHOUND is an explosion of music culture, filled with millions of MP3s, a massive selection of band merch, exclusive interviews and videos of your favorite bands, and a community of fellow music addicts who crave new sounds just like you do. MIKE HERRERA'S TUMBLEDOWN will be kicking off their new co-headlining tour with Jon Nolan of Starylight Run.
